Indian Solar Giants Embrace Non-Destructive Cell Cutting to Boost Module Efficiency

Starting from 2021, a notable shift has been taking place across India's solar manufacturing sector. Several of the country's leading module producers — including Goldi Solar, Rayzon Solar, Waaree Energies, Saatvik Green Energy, and Jakson Group — have moved away from conventional laser scribing equipment in favor of non-destructive cell cutting machines.


Why the Switch?

Traditional laser cutting has long been the standard method for scribing solar cells into half-cut or third-cut pieces. However, the thermal damage caused by laser beams creates micro-cracks and heat-affected zones along the cutting path. This damage leads to measurable power loss at the cell level, which accumulates across an entire module.

Non-destructive cutting technology takes a fundamentally different approach. Instead of burning through the silicon, it uses a controlled mechanical scoring process that preserves cell integrity. The result is a cleaner cut edge with virtually no thermal damage.

Measurable Impact on Power Output

Field data and production-line testing from these Indian manufacturers have confirmed that modules assembled with non-destructive cut cells show reduced power loss compared to those using traditional laser-scribed cells. For large-scale producers shipping hundreds of megawatts annually, even a small per-module gain translates into significant cumulative output improvement.
